Manure StorageManure storage structures are designed to either hold manure until it can be properly applied to cropland, or to provide storage and treatment of the waste prior to land application. Manure holding or storage structures can be constructed above or below ground, or can be placed below the floor of a building. A treatment structure, such as an anaerobic lagoon, is typically constructed below grade and to the side of the swine buildings. The following sections summarize the types of storage structures and treatment lagoons that can be used for swine manure. Detailed design information is given in the following publications:
