The Extension Ag Service Lab offers a test called "Animal Waste Analysis for Land Application". Even though it says its for animal waste, it can actually be used for determining nutrient content of any organic substance (with the exception of municipa l or industrial waste). The results will come back as pounds of available N, P2O5 and K2O per ton of organic material. This, of course, can be reduced to a smaller scale for homeowner applications. When possible, try to encourage the client to submit a good representative sample by combining smaller samplings into one single sample.
