Saturn: An electronic Sun Ra forum

Revised September 26, 1997

Saturn is an online discussion of the American bandleader Sun Ra (1914-1993), his band called the Arkestra, and his music (over 2000 compositions).

Saturn has operated continuously since the beginning of 1992. During this time, a high level of discussion has been maintained on topics ranging from Sun Ra's appearance on a recording of the Batman theme, to Sunny's borrowings from the once-again fashionable "exotica" of Les Baxter, to the current activities of the Arkestra, which continues to perform and record under the leadership of alto saxophonist extraordinaire Marshall Allen. Currently there are around 300 subscribers.

The Saturn list is now maintained by British Ra expert Chris Trent (cdt@vega.demon.co.uk). Here's a primer on how to subscribe and how to contribute to the Saturn list.
