Omega-9
Desaturase Gene Expression in Oil seeds
The omega-9
desaturase enzyme(stearoyl ACP desaturase) is involved in the oil synthesis
pathway in oil seeds.
In peanut and sunflower seeds, the omega - 9 desaturase transcript accumulate
highly in the early stages
of seed development. (Ref: 9, 10, 11)

The omega-
9 desaturase promoter is putative seed specific promotor.
We have
isolated a peanut omega - 9 desaturase promotor that we are currently
characterizing.
This promotor
will be fused to the fiber synthetic genes for large scale production
of fiber proteins in seed storage protein producing plants.
