The First Amendmant assured American citizens the right to free
speech. Part of the freedom of expression allows individuals to air
their grievances against the government without fear of reprisal.
While any person has the constitutional right to burn the symbol of
our great nation, I would ask you to consider a few things first.
- The flag represents our nation to all others in the world.
- Thousands upon thousands have given their lives in order for you
to have the right to speak out without being gunned down in the street.
- How much did you do to deserve the rights you flaught in all of our
faces?
- What image are you giving America in the public eye of other
nations?
If you stop to consider what happens every time a flag is ignited,
you will see that the government does not care, but the people that do
sometimes have a heartfelt desire to express their freedom of speech.
Many people would like to see you lose the right to engulf the symbol
of everything that makes America great in flames and utter obscenities
about the people in this country. I would like to see you keep the right
because it is guarenteed by the constitution. Next time you want to make
a statement, though, try writing a letter, it is much, much safer.
