The London Walks of Mrs. Dalloway
by Virignia Woolf

(All page numbers refer to American Harcourt edition)

  • Mrs. Dalloway’s Walk: from Dean’s Yard, Westminster, across Victoria Street, St. James' Park, and Picadilly Street, up Old and New Bond Streets to Oxford Street (MD 3-14)
  • Richard Dalloway’s Walk: from Brook St. off New Bond, through Green Park, past Buckingham Palace into Dean’s Yard  (MD 112-117)
  • Septimus & Rezia’s walk: from Oxford St. through Harley St. to the Broad Walk in Regent’s Park (MD 14-27)
  • Elizabeth’s Bus Ride:  from Army Navy Stores on Victoria St. , up Whitehall and the Strand to Fleet Street and The Temple (MD 134-139)
  • Peter Walsh’s Walk: from Westminster, up Whitehall, through Trafalgar Sq., to Cockspur Street and Haymarket Street, up Regent’s Street to Regent’s Park (MD 48-56)
Some observations: Mrs. Dalloway's Walk and Septimus's are continuous.  Peter Walsh's walk covers the most territory and is congruent with Mrs. D's walk + Septimus's.  Peter and Richard's walks each enclose Clarissa's, but only Richard's crosses hers.  Elizabeth's bus ride strikes off in a totally new direction.

Am I the only one who thinks all these walks together form the image of a vase with a flower in it?
