Harlan Ellison is an American writer associated with science fiction and a variety of other genres. Ellison was born and raised in Ohio. He attended Ohio State University. After being enrolled for 18 months, Ellison was asked to leave. About a year after this incident, in 1955, he arrived in New York City. At this time Ellison already had a well established fandom in Cleveland, Ohio due to his contributions to and involvement in Cleveland SF Society's magazine, Science-Fantasy Bulletin. In 1956 Ellison made his first professional appearance with "Glowworm" for Infinity Science Fiction and began to publish prolifically. He would go on to win seven Hugos, three Nebulas, and become the only scenarist to win the Writers’ Guild of America Award for Best Dramatic Episode Script three times.
