- Ann Clayborne--(40) American geologist. Wants to keep Mars in situ for study. Hooks up with Simon Frazier, by whom she has a son, Peter.
- Michel Duval--Psychologist, French; isolated. 207 ff: dreams of home. Areophany, goes south wi Hiroko
- Hiroko Ai--Japanese prodigy of biosphere design; youngest member of 100. Demeter -- earth-mother, but also Persephone because she disappears and comes back (379). 65-6: farm group establishing; Hiroko just jumps straight.
- Coyote--The stowaway; trickster god; wild card. 17: sees Frank throwing rocks. 69: Maya sees on ship. 227: intro self to Michel Duval. 376: at party
- Phyllis Boyle--American geologist. Christian who worships money. Arranges with transnationals to get elevator built. 51-2: argue wi John over religion. 169: Christian business radio show.308: plans to control elevator
